Building the Future: Working on the Eglinton Crosstown LRT

At JROD Welding & Design, we take pride in contributing to projects that shape the communities around us. One of the most exciting opportunities our owner, Jon, was part of before founding JROD Welding & Design was working on portions of the Eglinton Crosstown LRT for nearly three years — a massive infrastructure initiative set to make a lasting impact on the Toronto transit landscape.

From the moment Jon stepped onto the site, it was clear this was no ordinary job. The scale, coordination, and precision required across the project were impressive. From shoring installation and decking to fabricating and installing tie-back connections, hundreds of struts, and countless custom steel solutions across multiple sections; this project pushed every trade’s skills daily.

Projects of this magnitude demand not only technical ability but also adaptability and strong collaboration with other trades on site. What stood out most was the sense of purpose behind the work. The Crosstown LRT is designed to improve mobility across midtown Toronto, reduce congestion, and support the city’s continued growth. Growing up riding the TTC daily, Jon understood the real impact this project would have on the thousands of people who rely on public transit to get around.

While Jon’s scope wrapped long before the project was completed, we’re proud he contributed during a critical phase of construction. Watching the progress from the sidelines since then has been exciting, and it’s satisfying to know this work helped lay part of the foundation for what will become a key transit corridor. We are grateful for the experience, the challenges, and the opportunity to have worked alongside so many great people along the way.
